History of the PIDC organization

The Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) is a non-profit umbrella organization that proudly represents over a hundred Filipino-Canadian provincial, regional, professional, cultural, and social organizations. With a primary focus on organizing the annual Philippine Independence Day celebrations, PIDC hosts a variety of activities throughout the year that bring together the fourth largest minority group in Canada, fostering community spirit and cultural pride.

PIDC began as an informal committee, with its chair elected annually by representatives from various Filipino-Canadian associations. Recognizing the need for stability and continuity in its initiatives, PIDC was formally incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1997. Since its inception, PIDC has gained a reputation for organizing top-notch, professional events that celebrate and showcase the diverse talents and accomplishments of Filipinos across the globe.

In addition to its core celebrations, PIDC is actively involved in various community outreach programs, cultural festivals, and partnerships that enhance the visibility of Filipino culture in Canada. The organization is a proud member of the Canadian Multicultural Council of Asians in Ontario (CMC), Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO), and Imagine Canada, reflecting its commitment to multiculturalism and community collaboration.

Through its efforts, PIDC endeavors to foster unity within the Filipino-Canadian community while promoting Philippine heritage and culture to mainstream society. Furthermore, PIDC actively participates in events that encourage engagement with other ethnic communities, fostering mutual awareness and appreciation among diverse groups. By bridging cultural gaps, PIDC aims to create a more inclusive society that celebrates the rich tapestry of cultures that make up Canada.
