Join the community for Salo Salo sa Earl Bales Park, a warm and meaningful gathering that celebrates Filipino Heritage Month in the spirit of friendship, culture, and shared tradition. Hosted by the Philippine Independence Day Council together with the Knights of Rizal and several Filipino community organizations, this annual picnic brings people together in tribute to the legacy of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
The morning begins with a commemorative program at the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument in Earl Bales Park, honoring his life, ideals, and the enduring impact he continues to have on Filipinos around the world. This moment of reflection sets the tone for the day as the community gathers to celebrate heritage, unity, and pride in Filipino culture.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy a Filipino breakfast picnic where friends, families, and community members can connect, share stories, and enjoy delicious food together in a relaxed outdoor setting. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow Filipinos, celebrate our roots, and kick off the festivities of Filipino Heritage Month with joy and camaraderie.

The Philippine Independence Day Council (“PIDC”) is a non-profit umbrella organization of hundreds of Filipino-Canadian provincial, regional, professional, cultural and social organizations. PIDC is mainly tasked with the celebration of Philippine Independence Day with numerous activities throughout the year that bring together the third largest minority group in Canada.
PIDC began as a committee whose chair was elected annually by representatives of various Filipino-Canadian associations. To ensure smooth transition and provide continuity in its activities, PIDC was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1997.
PIDC is also a member of the Canadian Multicultural Council of Asians in Ontario (“CMC”) and Festivals and Events Ontario (“FEO”).
