About the PIDC organization

Our Story

The Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) is a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino-Canadian community. Established to foster unity, pride, and cultural awareness, PIDC serves as a bridge between the Filipino community and broader Canadian society. Through its year-round events and programs, PIDC strengthens connections among Filipino-Canadians, while also introducing Canadian audiences to the vibrancy and diversity of Filipino culture.

Our Mission

At PIDC, our mission is to uplift and empower the Filipino-Canadian community by creating inclusive platforms for celebration, connection, and cultural exchange. We aim to honor the legacy of our Filipino heritage through the organization of events that commemorate important milestones such as Philippine Independence Day, while also supporting initiatives that contribute to the growth, development, and integration of Filipino-Canadians in Toronto and across Canada.

What We Do

Throughout the year, PIDC organizes and hosts a wide array of events, including:

  • Philippine Independence Day Parade and Festival: Our flagship event celebrates Filipino independence with a grand parade, cultural performances, food festivals, and traditional activities.
  • Cultural and Arts Exhibitions: Showcasing Filipino artistry, crafts, music, and dance, these events highlight the rich traditions and modern innovations of Filipino culture.
  • Community Outreach: We offer workshops, educational programs, and support initiatives that benefit Filipino-Canadians, with a focus on empowering the youth and fostering cultural pride.
  • Contests and Pageants: We engage the community through exciting competitions, including talent shows, beauty pageants, and youth leadership contests, which recognize and promote Filipino talent and beauty.

Our Vision

We envision a thriving, united Filipino-Canadian community where our shared heritage and traditions are preserved and celebrated for generations to come. By building a stronger sense of community and identity, we hope to inspire Filipino-Canadians to take pride in their roots while contributing to the cultural diversity of Canada.
