FILIPINO HERITAGE HOOPFEST BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Get ready for an exciting day of competition, teamwork, and Filipino community spirit at the Filipino Heritage Hoopfest Basketball Tournament. Hosted by Filipinos in the6ix in partnership with the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC), this annual tournament brings together Filipino Canadian basketball teams from across the Greater Toronto Area for a celebration of sport, camaraderie, and cultural pride.
Players of various age groups will take to the court in a spirited showcase of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Basketball has long been a beloved sport within Filipino culture, and Hoopfest continues that tradition by creating a space where athletes, families, and fans can gather to support their teams and celebrate the energy of the Filipino community.
Whether you are competing, cheering from the sidelines, or simply enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, the Filipino Heritage Hoopfest promises a day filled with action, excitement, and community connection. Come out and support local Filipino talent as teams battle it out on the court and proudly represent their neighborhoods and organizations.
Organizer
The Philippine Independence Day Council (“PIDC”) is a non-profit umbrella organization of hundreds of Filipino-Canadian provincial, regional, professional, cultural and social organizations. PIDC is mainly tasked with the celebration of Philippine Independence Day with numerous activities throughout the year that bring together the third largest minority group in Canada.
PIDC began as a committee whose chair was elected annually by representatives of various Filipino-Canadian associations. To ensure smooth transition and provide continuity in its activities, PIDC was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1997.
PIDC is also a member of the Canadian Multicultural Council of Asians in Ontario (“CMC”) and Festivals and Events Ontario (“FEO”).
